Lionel Messi breaks records in Barcelona win over Sevilla

The Barcelona No. 10 has suffered a rather frustrating start to the season, plagued with injury. Messi was forced to sit out Barcelona's first four league games with a calf injury. His first start - against Villarreal - only lasted 45 minutes then he suffered an adductor strain and had to miss another game. He was able to set up Antoine Griezmman's first-half goal before succumbing to injury. Messi returned last week, midweek and set up Luis Suarez's second goal in Barcelona's 2 - 1 win over Inter in the Champions League. That was his first 90 minute game this season. His second was against Sevilla yesterday. Luis Suarez, Arturo Vidal and Ousmane Dembele scored 3 goals and gave Barcelona an early first half lead, with Messi sealing the comprehensive win over Sevilla in the last ten minutes (through a stunning free-kick). That was Messi's 420th league goal. He broke Cristiano Ronaldo's record of 419 goals scored in Europe's 'top five' leagues

Messi-less Barcelona succumb to 0-2 loss to Sevilla in Copa del Rey

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde rotated the Barcelona line-up for the first-leg of the Copa del Rey quarter-finals. Sevilla's Pablo Sarabia and Wissam Ben Yedder gave Sevilla a 2-0 win at home with their second-half goals. Valverde brought on Coutinho and Luis Suarez in a double change after Sevilla went up 1-0. They both made some effort but were unable to concretize their efforts into a goal. Coutinho hasn't been in good form lately and actually lost the ball in the build up to Sevilla's secon

26 minutes into Barcelona's La Liga match against Sevilla (Saturday, October 20) , Barcelona captain Lionel Messi went down with an arm injury. The Blaugrana No. 10 clutched his right elbow as he exited the game. He was examined on the sidelines before being replaced by Ousmane Dembele.   The Barcelona talisman had assisted Philippe Coutinho in the 2nd minute of play to give Barcelona an early advantage at the Camp Nou. He further consolidated Barcelona's lead with a goal before the quarter of the hour mark. Disaster struck when Messi fell awkwardly, a few minutes after scoring, seemingly landing on his outstretched arm as he made an attempt to cushion his fall.   Messi's injury comes at a really bad time as Barcelona have a particularly tough stretch of games ahead of them. The Spanish giants are set to take on Inter in a Champions League group stage match on Wednesday, and El  ClĂĄsico  the following Sunday.  ❗ [INJURY NEWS] Tests carried out on the fi
