Germany's coronavirus cases top 100,000, deaths surpass 1,900

According to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, as of Tuesday, April 7th in the morning, Germany has recorded more than 103,300 cases and recorded more than 1,900 deaths. On Tuesday, the number of cases rose by 3,834 in 24 hours. So far, more than 36,000 people have recovered from Covid-19 - the respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus. Economics postdoctoral researcher Dr. Jean Roch Donsimoni, told The Local that the total number of coronavirus cases will grow throughout, "all the way to September". "What we will expect to see dropping is the number of new cases every day and that will happen as we approach the peak," he said. “If indeed the current policies in place continue as initially planned – that means the shutdown lasts from March 14th until April 19th – then, using our model, we predict that at the peak of the pandemic, we will see between 0.2 and 1.5 million individuals actively infected with Covid-19. “This figure only tak

Coronavirus in Germany: 62,095 cases and 541 deaths

As of Monday, March 30, (morning hours), Germany's coronavirus count shows 62,095 cases and 54a deaths. As of Saturday, March 29, Germany's fatality rate was just 0.72%, a sharp contrast to Italy and Spain whose mortality rates are 10.8% and 8% respectively. Britain has three times less cases than Germany, but twice as many deaths. This extremely low coronavirus death rate in Germany could be explained by the prompt measures taken by the German government to contain the virus. On January 28, Germany recorded its first coronavirus case in Bavaria - a man who works for a car parts company. Two days after identification, authorities successfully traced the person who had infected the first case, tracked their contacts and quarantined them. The plant in Bavaria was shut, travel to China stopped, and all employees in the plant tested. Many turned out to be positive and spread was contained, with the same protocol implemented throughout the country - testing, tracking, quara

As of March 20, 2020, Germany has recorded 18,361 coronavirus cases, but only 52 deaths from the virus, a fact that baffles many. Germany has a fatality rate of just 0.3%, a sharp contrast to Italy's 7.9%. Some experts think Germany has such a low death rate from the virus because they are at an earlier stage of the pandemic, and its death rate may increase with time. Rampant testing and early detection is a plausible reason to some scientists. Dr. Mike Ryan, health emergencies director at the World Health Organization (WHO) said: Germany has had a very aggressive testing process. So the number of tests maybe detecting more mild cases." Regarding Italy's high death rate, he said: "Italy has a much older population. And in many ways Italy is the poster child for living longer lives, but unfortunately in this case having an older population means the fatality rate may appear higher." Prof Lothar Wieler of Germany’s Robert Koch Institute said: "From
