Advantages of Greenhouse Farming in Africa

A greenhouse is a building with walls and a roof made mainly of transparent or translucent material, like glass or plastic (usually polyethylene or polyvinyl), designed for the in-door cultivation of crops. The frame is usually built with wood or metal (usually aluminum or galvanized steel). Greenhouses are used for the production of vegetables, flowers and fruits. Growing vegetables and fruits in a greenhouse offers a good number of advantages, especially in Africa. The continent is still a net importer of food despite possessing 60% of the world's uncultivated arable land.  Africa can significantly increase its food production with the greenhouse technology. Africa currently accounts for less than 5% of area dedicated to protected agriculture in the world, while China accounts for most of the area dedicated to the cultivation of vegetables in plastic greenhouses. Greenhouses are one of several forms of protected agriculture. The following are the advantages of using

Coronavirus has claimed more than 100,000 lives across the US

It's been almost four months since the first coronavirus case was confirmed in the US, and over three since the first known virus-related death happened (February 6). In other words, more than 100,000 people have died in 100 days. The virus has claimed lives across all the states in the US. This morning, US President Donald Trump, noted the "very sad milestone" with a tweet: "To all of the families & friends of those who have passed, I want to extend my heartfelt sympathy & love for everything that these great people stood for & represent. God be with you!" An average of approximately 900 Americans have died from Covid-19 since February 6. More than 41% of the deaths in the US have occurred in the states of New York and New Jersey Former US Vice President Joe Biden also tweeted a comforting message to the bereaved families: "There are moments in our history so grim, so heart-rending, that they're forever fixed in each of our hearts as sh

Health Risks Posed By Poor Menstrual Hygiene

Maintaining healthy menstrual hygiene is of paramount importance to a woman's general well-being, comfort and health. The United Nations defines menstrual hygiene management as the use of clean menstrual hygiene management products to soak menstrual discharge by women that are changeable in privacy as required, with proper access to water, soap and disposal methods. Menstrual hygiene products are the products used to catch menstrual flow, such as pads, cloths, tampons and menstrual cups.  Lack of access to feminine hygiene products (often caused by poverty) compels some women to use unhealthy menstrual hygiene products. Poor menstrual hygiene threatens a  woman's health by exposing her to bacterial vaginosis, fungal infections, urinary tract infections, infertility and others. A woman's risk of getting cervical cancer also increases if she is repeatedly exposed to reproductive tract infections and urinary tract infections (UTIs). Contracting UTIs is possible when a woma

Common Myths About Abortion

Who Is An Entrepreneur?

The concept of entrepreneurship has been defined and described by many in varying ways. So who finally is the entrepreneur that everyone talks of? Research on entrepreneurship and everyday life alludes to housewives starting businesses, reinforcing the unbefitting theory that entrepreneurship is limited to small businesses. For this reason, many fail to understand that most inventions are successful only because they were conceived in an entrepreneurial way. The word entrepreneur comes from a 13 th century French verb, “entreprendre”, which means to undertake or do something. This definition has been gradually redefined by economists by giving more attributes to this definition. In the 16 th century, it was related to business.
