Barcelona captain Lionel Messi was awarded his sixth Golden Shoe on Wednesday at a ceremony in Barcelona. The said award is given to the player who scores the most league goals across Europe’s top leagues. The Golden Shoe award was created in 1967 when it was won by Eusebio. This happens to be Messi’s third successive Golden Shoe award. Messi scored 36 goals in 34 appearances in the 2018-19 La Liga season. Receiving the award on the 16 th of October was special for Messi and Barcelona as it was the 15-year anniversary of his Barcelona debut. Messi has two more Golden Shoes than Cristiano Ronaldo who last won the award in the 2014-15 football season. Messi received the award from his sons Thiago and Mateo.
