Cameroon is the first Central African country and overall eighth African country to confirm a coronavirus case. It is the fourth country in sub-Saharan Africa to report a case after Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa. The first confirmed coronavirus case in Cameroon is a 58-year-old French citizen who arrived Yaoundé, the capital of Cameroon on February 24th. He has been quarantined at the Central Hospital of Yaoundé. On March 6th, Cameroon's health minister Manaouda Malachie issued a statement announcing the case. It read: "The Minister of Public Health announces the confirmation of a case of COVID-19 in Cameroon. He is a 58-year-old French citizen who arrived in Yaoundé on 24 February 2020. The active surveillance put in place by the country since the occurrence of the Covid-19 outbreak has made it possible to detect this case.
