It's been almost four months since the first
coronavirus case was confirmed in the US, and over three since the first known
virus-related death happened (February 6). In other words, more than 100,000
people have died in 100 days. The virus has claimed lives across all the states
in the US. This morning, US President Donald Trump, noted the "very sad
milestone" with a tweet: "To all of the families & friends of
those who have passed, I want to extend my heartfelt sympathy & love for
everything that these great people stood for & represent. God be with
you!"
An average of approximately 900 Americans have
died from Covid-19 since February 6. More than 41% of the deaths in the US have
occurred in the states of New York and New Jersey
Former US Vice President Joe Biden also tweeted a
comforting message to the bereaved families: "There are moments in
our history so grim, so heart-rending, that they're forever fixed in each of
our hearts as shared grief. Today is one of those moments," he wrote.
"To those hurting, I'm so sorry for your loss. The nation grieves with
you."
According to the Johns Hopkins University data dashboard, there are more than 5.9 million confirmed cases around the world, with 1.7 million in the United States. Worldwide, the virus has claimed more than 358,000 lives.
