The nominations for the
2018 American Music Awards were revealed (on September 12) live from YouTube
Space L.A. by Kane Brown, Ella Mai, Normani and Bebe Rexha. Tracee Ellis Ross
will be hosting the AMAs for the second year in a row. The three-hour awards ceremony
will air live on ABC from Los Angeles' Microsoft Theater on Tuesday, October 9,
at 8:00 p.m. The nomination criteria for this year's awards include: album and
digital song sales, key fan interactions, streaming, social activity, radio
airplay, and touring. Billboard and its data partners like Next Big Sound and
Nielsen Music tracked these measurements from September 15, 2017 to August 9,
2018.
Drake and
Cardi B are the pack leaders with eight nominations each. Ed Sheeran and Post
Malone are the second most nominated artists with six nods each. The third most
nominated pair are Camila Cabello and Bruno Mars, with five nods apiece, then
Taylor Swift and Khalid with four each. Drake, backed by his top-selling album
"Scorpion" and three No. 1 hits (God's Plan, Nice For What, In my
Feelings), will compete for artist of the year alongside Ed Sheeran, Imagine
Dragons, Post Malone, and Taylor Swift.
