Cardi B reportedly postpones shows to recover from plastic surgery

Hip-hop artist Cardi B just backed out of a Memorial Day Weekend concert scheduled for May 24 in Baltimore, Maryland, and TMZ reports is due to serious complications from her recent plastic surgeries. The "Money" rapper also postponed a concert in El Paso, Texas on Tuesday, May 21. According to TMZ, sources close to Cardi revealed she needs time to recover from her recent breast augmentation and liposuction. As per TMZ, Cardi's condition has gotten so bad that she can't perform, with doctors encouraging her to take a break for the swelling to go down and for her body to fully recover. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, full recovery time averages six weeks for breast augmentation and several months for liposuction. Per Page Six, Cardi's publicist commented on her recent cancellations, saying: "Cardi was overzealous in getting back to work."
"She didn’t take the time necessary to fully recover. Her strenuous schedule has taken a toll on her body and now has been given strict doctors’ orders to pull out the rest of her performances in May.”
Cardi has been open about her decision to go under the knife since giving birth to her daughter Kulture in July 2018. She hinted at liposuction a month after Kulture's birth. According to People, she said "I still feel like I got a lot of love handles right here," while pulling on her stomach. “It’s not much but it’s like — I’m used to having, like, a real tight stomach … I might just get a little lipo, you know what I’m sayin’?”
During a show at the Beale Street Festival in Memphis, Tennessee earlier in May, Cardi mentioned she should have canceled the show to heal from surgery. “I have some news for y’all. I should have canceled today,” she said during her performance, according to People. “I shouldn’t really be performing because moving too much is gonna f— up my lipo. But bitch I’m still gonna get my motherf—ing money back, let’s go!”
The 26-year-old rapper won her first Grammy earlier this year and previously became the first female hiphop artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 with a solo song ("Bodak Yellow") since Lauryn Hill in 1998.
Get well soon, Cardi!

The finger-cutting tradition of Indonesia's Dani tribe

The death of a loved one is always an extremely painful thing to bear, and people of different cultures grieve in diverse ways, some more unique than others. A typically unique way of grieving is that of the Dani (an Indonesian tribe). Finger-cutting is a fundamental part of grieving for women of the Dani tribe, and pertains to their women only. According to The Globe and Mail, an estimated 250,000 Dani tribe members live in a town named Wamena, in the extremely remote central highland area of Papua Province. Wamena is only accessible by plane.  Upon the death of a loved one, the top joint of one of a woman's fingers would be amputated, and smear ashes and clay across their faces. Prior to amputation, a string would be firmly tied to the upper half of the woman's finger for 30 minutes, to cause numbness. This was to reduce the pain from amputating the tip. In most cases, the responsibility of cutting off the top joint of the finger is assigned to one of the woman's
