Barcelona talisman Lionel and Juventus
ace Cristiano Ronaldo lead a list of 10 nominees for the prestigious The Best
FIFA Men's Player award. Last year's winner, FIFA World Cup hero Luka Modric,
was not among the nominees. The other eight contenders include: Liverpool trio
- Mohammed Salah, Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk; former Ajax duo Frenkie de
Jong and Matthijs de Ligt; Tottenham striker Harry Kane, former Chelsea
superstar Eden Hazard; and PSG wonderkid Kylian Mbappe. Kylian Mbappe finished
fourth in last year's vote. This year, he became the first player to win Ligue
1's Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards in the same season.
Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo count La Liga and Serie A among their achievements
over the course of the last year. Eden Hazard won the UEFA Europa League with
Chelsea before leaving for real Madrid this summer.
The voting of The Best FIFA Men's
Player takes into consideration all the players' achievements between July 16,
2018, and July 19, 2019. Fans, journalists, national team captains and coaches,
and "other key members of the footballing community" will vote for
their favorite three players, with the top pick receiving five points, the
second, three points; and the third choice, a point. The winner will be named
at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in Milan, Italy, on
September 23.
