Shakira Performs at the Davis Cup Finals in Madrid

If you're a tennis lover, then you're probably aware that Barcelona footballer Gerard Pique revamped and organized the just ended Davis Cup - a tennis tournament designed by Rakuten World Champions that took place in Spain from Monday, November 18th 2019 to today, Sunday, November 24th.
Colombian pop-star and humanitarian Shakira - who happens to be Pique's partner and mother of their two kids - opened up the Davis Cup finale today with an electric performance of a few of her top hits, including a remix of her countryman Camilo's hit, Tutu which she performed with him and Pedro.
Shakira dazzled and thrilled the audience at Madrid performing in a navy sequinned bodysuit. The Waka Waka hitmaker was joined by four female dancers on stage. Shakira's performance was followed by the singles final match between Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada and Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain, at La Caja Magica, Madrid.
In attendance were personalities such as Spain's monarch, King Felipe VI, Spain's Minister of Culture and Sports, Jose Guirao, and other political and sporting representatives. Footballers like Marcos Alonso, Marco Asensio, James Rodriguez and Sergio Ramos were also present. Pique and the president of the ITF - International Tennis Federation - were together in the stands.
Shakira is set to perform at the Super Bowl LIV halftime show in Miami on February 2, 2020 - which coincidentally is her birthday - alongside Jennifer Lopez. Shakira suffered a haemorrhage to her vocal cord in late 2017.
She told The Guardian: "I never thought that my voice would leave me, because it’s so inherent to my nature. It was my identity. So when I couldn’t sing, that was unbearable. There were times I couldn’t even get out of bed – I was so depressed."
Talking about how affected Pique was by the traumatic episode, she said, "He felt like one of those ex-convicts who are given their freedom and don’t know what to do with it. I was not positive. I was so pessimistic. I was a bitter person to be around. Gerard saw the worst of me."
To give herself the best shot at recovery, she had to abstain from talking for a while. "I had to communicate through signs and nobody could understand me," she reckoned. She recovered her voice in 2018 without undergoing the surgery doctors said she needed. She wasn't convinced surgery would work and went for hypnosis and meditation, and got holy water from Lourdes. She said "Either I needed surgery or divine intervention... it felt like I was having some kind of religious experience."

The finger-cutting tradition of Indonesia's Dani tribe

The death of a loved one is always an extremely painful thing to bear, and people of different cultures grieve in diverse ways, some more unique than others. A typically unique way of grieving is that of the Dani (an Indonesian tribe). Finger-cutting is a fundamental part of grieving for women of the Dani tribe, and pertains to their women only. According to The Globe and Mail, an estimated 250,000 Dani tribe members live in a town named Wamena, in the extremely remote central highland area of Papua Province. Wamena is only accessible by plane.  Upon the death of a loved one, the top joint of one of a woman's fingers would be amputated, and smear ashes and clay across their faces. Prior to amputation, a string would be firmly tied to the upper half of the woman's finger for 30 minutes, to cause numbness. This was to reduce the pain from amputating the tip. In most cases, the responsibility of cutting off the top joint of the finger is assigned to one of the woman's
