Avicii's tragic passing in 2018 threw more light on the need
for mental health awareness inside and outside the EDM scene, with the entire
music community discussing the importance of artists remaining in good mental
health. After Avicii's demise, DJs like Hardwell and Carnage decided to take a
break from music in order to improve their mental health.
In that light, a benefit concert for mental health awareness
and suicide prevention has been announced for December 5th in honor of late
Swedish Producer/DJ Avicii, born Tim Bergling. The concert will hold at
Avicii's hometown of Stockholm in Sweden. Avicii's family and friends made the
announcement just a few days ago. The tickets went on sale today and sold out
within hours - 55,000 tickets according to reports.
In a statement, Avicii's father, Klas Bergling,
declared, “Tim had plans for his music to be performed together with a large
live band, and now we are realizing his dream and giving fans a chance to
experience his music in this unique way.”
The Tim Bergling Foundation will host the event, and all
proceeds will go to support the foundation. "We are grateful that his friends, producers, artists, and colleagues
are coming to Stockholm to help. They have all expressed sincere interest and
desire to engage in efforts to stem the tide of mental illness and lend their
support to our work with the Tim Bergling Foundation," Klas
Bergling added.
"We are very
much looking forward to this evening, which will be a starting point for the
foundation's work going forward... We want this concert to help put the topic
on the agenda and pay attention to the stigma surrounding mental illness and
suicide, especially among young people."
Avicii's long-time collaborators and friends like David
Guetta, Laidback Luke, Nicky Romero, Aloe Blacc, Adam
Lambert, Otto Knows, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, and Rita Ora are
among the artists slated to perform. The two-hour concert will also include a
30-piece band.
The Tim Bergling Foundation will also advocate for
initiatives like global hunger, climate change, and the protection of
endangered species, which Tim was passionate about.
Tim's legacy lives on through his music, which continued
being released after his death. His posthumous album 'Tim' was finished by his
close friends and collaborators. The album topped global charts, and reached
the No. 1 spot on the Top Dance/Electronic Albums Chart, and has as of today
sold more than a billion copies. The proceeds have been channeled to the Tim
Bergling Foundation.
