Spain plans to use robots to test 80,000 people a day for the coronavirus

In a bid to expand testing capacity and reduce human exposure to the coronavirus, Spain will be deploying a fleet of robots to automate coronavirus testing in the country. Currently, about 15,000 to 20,000 tests are carried out in Spain, so robots would quadruple the number of tests currently being done. Also, given that 12% of the 35,000 coronavirus cases in Spain are health workers, the risk of new cases of health worker contaminations would be greatly reduced. The head of Madrid's Health Institute Raquel Yotti said: A plan to automate tests through robots has been already designed and Spain has committed to buying four robots that will allow us to execute 80,000 tests per day.'
