As of Friday, March 20, at least 1,000 people have died
from the Covid-19 disease in Spain. Spain has become the fourth hardest-hit
country, after China, Italy and Iran. A nationwide state of emergency was
declared in the country on Saturday. Around 20,000 people have been infected in
Spain, while 1,588 people have recovered.
Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has ordered the closure of all
hotels in the country and has promised to implement special measures in nursing
homes. On Wednesday, March 20, a Foreign Office spokesperson announced: "The
Spanish government have confirmed that all hotels will close in Spain from
Tuesday 24 March.
"We therefore advise British travellers in Spain to
contact their tour operator or airline as soon as possible, to arrange their
return journey home before this date."
According to the World Health Organization, more than
209,000 people worldwide have been infected by the novel coronavirus, and at
least 86,000 have recovered. Hohns Hopkin University data reveals that the
global death toll from the coronavirus outbreak has surpassed 10,000.
