Barcelona captain Lionel Messi has donated €1m to Barcelona
Hospital Clinic, a health institution which is both researching the coronavirus
and treating its victims. Spain counts close to 49,000 Covid-19 cases, and has
recorded almost 2,700 deaths from the virus.
On Tuesday evening, Barcelona's Hospital Clinic tweeted:
"Leo Messi makes a donation for the fight against Covid-19 at the Clinic.
Many thanks for your commitment and your support." The amount donated was
reported by Mundo Deportivo.
Earlier on Tuesday, Pep Guardiola, Manchester City's manager
donated the same amount to the Barcelona Medical College.
Messi has also partaken in a number of campaigns to raise
awareness on coronavirus over the past week. These campaigns highlight the
importance of staying at home and washing one's hands often to prevent the
spread of the virus.
