Mourners started paying
tributes to the late Cardiff City striker Emiliano Sala since the arrival of
his remains in Argentina, on Friday. Sala's life was abruptly cut short in a
plane crash as he traveled from Nantes to begin training with his new club Cardiff
City. A vigil is going on at Sala's boyhood club San Martin in his hometown of
Progreso.
Sala's devastated aunt, Mirta Taffarel, sobbed as she said, "I do not understand it.

"I would like to find a responsible person,
someone to tell me what has happened, but it only seems that fate led us to
this."
Fans draped a banner reading 'Emi, nunca caminaras solo' or 'Emi, You'll Never
Walk Alone' outside the vigil, whih begun as early as 7:00 a.m.

A sobbing mourner, Lucia Torres, who lives nearby,
said, "It's as if he was a member of my family.
"It's something I can't understand nor accept because it hurts so much. The town has been in darkness since 21 January."

Progreso said: "People will be able to pass
by the coffin, leave a letter, a drawing or flowers.
"He represented a lot for us. We're a small
village and Emi was a celebrity, the only player to turn professional."

Ahead of the vigil, Sala's heartbroken sister,
Romina Sala, wrote on Facebook this morning: "Tell me it’s a nightmare, Emi, come back please
brother. Please. Love you so much."
A devastated neighbor of Sala's father told the
press: "I believe God needed a number nine up there. Now he has
it."

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock and the club's CEO Ken Choo are among those who will attend the funeral.
Sala's cousinm Martin Gatti, said he thought Sala was "forced" onto the small plane. He said: "Making him board a plane that was not in good
condition, with a pilot who wasn't prepared, alone, at night. Where were the
representatives?
"If you happen to be the most important player
sold in the history of the club, they could have at least taken care of him, at
least they would have taken care of him."
Sala's agent Willie McKay, who helped organize the flight on January 21, will allegedly be at the funeral.
Sala's body will be taken back to the city of Santa Fe where a private crematorium service will begin at about 7:30pm UK time.
