The plane carrying
missing Cardiff City striker Emiliano Sala was found yesterday, two weeks after
it vanished, and his family has been alerted. The plane carrying Sala and pilot
David Ibbotson disappeared on January 21 while flying over the English Channel.
An official search for Sala's plane was stopped by Guernsey Police on January
24, with officials saying their chances of survival were extremely remote. The search for the missing plane was resumed three days later after football stars
like Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and others, including football fans raised £325,000 for a private search to
begin.
Horacio Sala |
Sala's
devastated dad, Horacio Sala, spoke to Cronica TV outside his home in Santa Fe,
Argentina, after receiving the news, saying "I can't believe it,
this is a dream, a bad dream. I'm desperate.
"I communicated with them every day, but since I
do not have Whatsapp it's hard to call them or call me.
"They told me that the days passed and there was
no news of Emiliano or the plane."
David
Mearns, who directed the search operation north of Guernsey said the wreckage
of the plane was located yesterday morning. He told Sky News, "The wreckage of the
plane carrying Emiliano Sala and piloted by David Ibbotson has been located.
"It was located earlier this morning by my crew on
board the Morven and, as in agreement with the AAIB as soon as the plane was
located and the position was passed to them their vessel, the GO Ocean 3, then
moved in over the wreckage and have been conducting ROV (remotely operated
vehicle) investigations.
"The families have been notified by the AAIB and
the AAIB will be making a statement tomorrow [Monday] morning.
"This is about the best result we could have hoped
for the families but tonight they have heard devastating news and in respect of
the families I won't comment any further about what has happened.
"All I will say about the wreckage is there is a
substantial amount of wreckage on the seabed."
Pilot Ibbotson and Sala aboard the wrecked Piper PA-46 Malibu
Aviation experts believe ice on the wings of Sala's
plane could have caused it to crash into the Channel. Sala got worried as the
plane suffered through rough conditions. He sent WhatsApp messages to his
friends. He wrote: "Boys, I'm here on top of the plane that looks
like it's about to fall apart. And I'm going to Cardiff, crazy, tomorrow we
already started. In the afternoon we started to train, boys, in my new team.”
He later sent another message which read, “If you
do not have any more news from in an hour and a half, I don’t know if they need
to send someone to find me...I am getting scared!”

No bodies have been found as yet. Would it be totally
unrealistic to hold on to whatever hope left that Sala and the pilot could
still be alive? Prayers and love to Sala and Ibbotson's friends and families.
