Mumbai: Dog dies after being gang-raped by four men

A male dog was gang-raped and mutilated by four men in Mumbai, India, on November 17, 2018. The dog was succored by animal welfare non-governmental organization Animals Matter To Me (AMTM), who took the dog to a veterinary clinic.
Sadly, the dog succumbed to his injuries, dying in his sleep four days after admission, on November 21, 2018. The dog was given the name 'Courage' upon admission. Courage suffered from excessive bleeding and internal injuries after being gang-raped by four men who are believed to have been under the influence of drugs. Courage was severely traumatized after the incident and would get scared and scream whenever someone tried to touch him at the clinic. The veterinarian who treated Courage revealed that someone had tried to fold his hind legs near his pelvis, in addition to gang-raping and mutilating him. Courage's remains will be sent for a post-mortem evaluation.

A local resident, Sudha Fernandes - who regularly feeds the stray animals in the area - saw Courage bleeding, and in great pain, with his penis mutilated. She saw the dog at midday, on November 17. Courage ran off when she tried to get a hold of him, and she only saw him the next day, near a temple. She rushed him to AMTM to seek treatment.
A local auto rickshaw driver later informed her that he saw four men, allegedly under the influence of drugs, sexually abusing the dog whose legs were tied, and mouth gagged. The man said he was driving past a deserted area in West Malwani at 2 am, and heard the sound of a dog wailing. He further said he stumbled upon four men fleeing the scene when went to investigate. He did not bring the dog up for medical treatment despite noticing his severe injuries.
A First Information Report has been lodged under Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 at the Malwani police station. The authorities have launched a manhunt for the four suspects and are also on the lookout for the auto rickshaw driver.
Eight men were booked earlier this year, in August, for raping a pregnant goat in Haryana's Mewat district.

The finger-cutting tradition of Indonesia's Dani tribe

The death of a loved one is always an extremely painful thing to bear, and people of different cultures grieve in diverse ways, some more unique than others. A typically unique way of grieving is that of the Dani (an Indonesian tribe). Finger-cutting is a fundamental part of grieving for women of the Dani tribe, and pertains to their women only. According to The Globe and Mail, an estimated 250,000 Dani tribe members live in a town named Wamena, in the extremely remote central highland area of Papua Province. Wamena is only accessible by plane.  Upon the death of a loved one, the top joint of one of a woman's fingers would be amputated, and smear ashes and clay across their faces. Prior to amputation, a string would be firmly tied to the upper half of the woman's finger for 30 minutes, to cause numbness. This was to reduce the pain from amputating the tip. In most cases, the responsibility of cutting off the top joint of the finger is assigned to one of the woman's
