In assessing Eden Hazard's performance
for Chelsea in their 2-1 victory at Watford, Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri
brought up Barcelona ace Lionel Messi. Hazard crossed a century of Chelsea
goals in the Blue's triumph at Watford, being the lone goalscorer for Chelsea
in the game.
The 27-year-old forward is looked upon
as a talisman in Chelsea, and has been directly involved in 19 Premier league
goals in 18 games this season, the most for any player in the league. Given
Hazard's crucial importance to Chelsea, Sarri qualifies Hazard's importance to
that of Messi and Ronaldo to their respective teams.
"He is very important for us.
Messi is very important for Barcelona," said Sarri. "Hazard
scored twice today. He is very able to open space for his team-mates."
"Maybe we played with quality
against Leicester, but today we had much better application for the 90
minutes," he added.
Still talking of Hazard, he
said, "It is difficult to stop him. It is different if you stop him
as a number nine or on the left. He is a player with special quality, speed and
skill."
Hazard has now scored 101 goals for Chelsea.
Sarri says Hazard is very important to the team, as Messi is to Barcelona's and Ronaldo to Juventus's. He notes he scored two goals and also could have had three assists today. #WATCHE— Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) December 26, 2018
