Italy reported its lowest single-day coronavirus
deaths in 15 days on Sunday, April 5. The death toll on Sunday was reported to
be 525 deaths, the lowest since March 19. 4,316 new cases were recorded, a drop
from Saturday's 4,805. The total number of coronavirus cases in Italy stands at
128,948.
In the hard-hit
northern region of Lombardy, citizens are required to shield their mouths and noses with masks or other
coverings when leaving their homes. According to the Interior Ministry,
Italian police have fined over 175,000 people since March 11 for violating
lockdown rules. Today, on NBC's Meet the Press, Italy's Prime Minister, Giuseppe
Conte said he can't yet say when Italy's lockdown would end.
