Italy’s daily coronavirus death toll rises to 636, but new cases fall sharply


On Monday, April 6, Italy registered a slight surge in new deaths - 636 deaths, higher than Sunday's tally of 525 new deaths. However, the number of new cases dropped sharply - an increase of 3,599 cases. This is the lowest rise in new cases recorded in Italy since March 17. Before March 17, the daily rise in new cases ranged between 4,050 and 6,557. There are now 132,547 coronavirus cases in Italy. Of those, 22,837 have recovered. 
The number of coronavirus patients in intensive care has declined for three successive days. There were 3,898 people in intensive care, down 79 on Sunday. As of today, 16,523 people have died from coronavirus in Italy - the highest number of fatalities of any other country.
