On Saturday, April 11, the US became the first
country to report more than 2,000 coronavirus deaths in a day. Its death toll
is now 18,781. The US has overtaken Italy - which has a death toll of 18,849 -
as the country with the most coronavirus deaths. Despite reaching such a grim
milestone, Dr. Deborah Birx, coordinator of
the White House coronavirus task force, on Friday said that the US has not yet
"reached the peak" of the pandemic.
On
Friday, POTUS Trump said he was creating a second task force dedicated to the
reopening of the country. "This is beyond economic," Trump said
at the White House on Friday as he explained the group's mission. "I call
it the 'opening our country task force' or 'opening our country council,' so we
don't get it confused with" the primary White House task force.
