Italy reports 683 coronavirus deaths today

On Wednesday, March 25, Italy's Civil Protection Agency reported 683 deaths from coronavirus, taking its total death count to 7,503. This is a decline from yesterday's 743. The death count from Monday, Sunday and Saturday are: 602, 650, and 793 respectively. The number of confirmed cases today rose from 69,176 to 74,386. Italy has recorded 9,362 recoveries from the virus so far. Angelo Borelli, the head of the Civil Protection Agency, was absent from the customary new conference to display the data because he came down with a fever on Wednesday and was being tested for coronavirus.

Italy's coronavirus death toll on the rise again with 743 new deaths

On Tuesday, March 23, Italy recorded its second-highest daily death toll from the coronavirus outbreak. Italy's Civil Protection Agency figures reveal 743 more deaths today, but a decline in the number of new cases - 3,612 new cases were recorded today, a drop from yesterday's 3,780. There has been close to 900 recoveries in the past 24 hours. The total number of recoveries in Italy stands at 8,326. In sum, 6,820 people have died from the virus in Italy. There are currently 54,030 active cases in the country. The percentage of new infections was just eight percent, the lowest level Italy registered since its first death on February 21.

Italy’s deaths from coronavirus reducing – 602 deaths today

On Monday, March 23, Italy recorded 602 new coronavirus deaths, taking its death toll from the virus to 6,078. The number of deaths in Italy have dropped consistently for the past two days, after Saturday’s all-time high of 793 deaths. The number of new cases increased by 11%, from 59,138 to 63,928 – an increase of close to 5,000 cases. The number of recoveries have also increased from 7,024 on Sunday to 7,432 on Monday. The oldest woman to have recovered from the virus is a 95-year-old grandmother. The number of cases in the US have grown beyond 35,000 and number of deaths closer to 500, according to John Hopkins University data.

Italy reports 651 new coronavirus deaths as toll nears 5500

On Sunday, March 22, Italy recorded a slightly smaller number of deaths than she recorded on Saturday. 651 new deaths were recorded on Sunday, taking Italy's death toll from the pandemic to 5,476. The average age of the dead is 78.5 years. There was a 10.4% rise in the number of confirmed cases (+5,560 cases), which took the country's total of confirmed cases to  59,138.  Italian Civil Protection Service chief Angelo Borrelli told reporters: "The figures announced today are lower than those for yesterday. "I hope and we all hope that these figures can be borne out in the coming days. But do not let your guard down." Lombardy has accounted for approximately two-thirds of Italy's coronavirus deaths since the outbreak of the virus in Italy but only accounted for 30.4% of the new infections recorded on Sunday. Italy reports 793 coronavirus deaths in 24 hours

Italy has recorded its largest daily spike in coronavirus deaths since the start of the coronavirus outbreak in Italy. There were 793 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking Italy's total number of deaths to 4,825. There was also a 13.9% surge in its number of new coronavirus cases, a rise from the previous day's 47,021 to 53,578. Lombardy is the most critically hit region in Italy, with 3,095 deaths and 25,515 cases so far. Lombardy accounts for more than 605 of Italy's latest deaths.  Police were deployed across the streets of Rome on Saturday, checking documents and fining those who had no valid reason to be outside.

Friday, March 20, Italy's death toll keeps skyrocketing. In the last 24 hours, 627 people have lost their lives in Italy. 5,986 new cases were also recorded - the highest 24 hour surge in cases and deaths recorded since the outbreak of the virus in Italy. The total number of coronavirus cases recorded in Italy stand at 47,021 and total number of fatalities, 4,032. The army has been deployed in northern Italy to help move corpses as funeral services are overwhelmed. So far, the virus has claimed more than 10,400 lives worldwide, and has now reached every continent in the world, except Antarctica. So far, 87,351 people have recovered from the virus.

Italy overtakes China's coronavirus death toll with 427 more deaths in 24 hours

On Thursday, March 19, Italy recorded 427 more deaths from the coronavirus pandemic, taking its total number of deaths to 3,405. This figure shows that Italy has overtaken China's death toll as China report a total of 3,245 deaths. So far, there have been more than 220,000 coronavirus cases recorded in the world and more than 9,000 deaths. The total number of coronavirus cases in Italy have increased by 14.9%, from the previous count of 35,713 to 41,035. Italy will be extending its lockdown beyond March in a bid to contain the wild spread of the virus in the country. Italy to prolong coronavirus lockdown beyond April 3

On Thursday, March 19, Italy's Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced that Italy would be extending its lockdown beyond the current end-date of April 3. PM Conte discussed the issue in an interview with Italy's record newspaper  Corriere della Sera . Conte said the country's strict nationwide quarantine measures "can only be extended". "We have avoided the collapse of the system, the restrictive measures are working, and it is obvious that when we reach a peak and the contagion will start to decrease, at least in percentage terms, we hope in a few days, we will not be able to return immediately to life as before," he added.  Italy was put on lockdown by her government since March 10, with closure of schools and universities set to continue till April 3. 475 coronavirus deaths in Italy today

Italy has increased its highest surge in coronavirus deaths today, March 18. The total death toll in Italy stands at close to 3,000. Lombardy is the worst hit region in Italy, and recorded 319 deaths in 24 hours. There are 35,713 coronavirus cases in the country, of which 4,000 have recovered. At least 8,758 people have died from the Covid-19 disease worldwide.  Italy was put on lockdown about two weeks ago to halt the spread of the virus and its citizens have been asked to stay indoors. Italy's coronavirus death toll tops 2,500

Italy has experienced a 16% increase in deaths from coronavirus over the last 24 hours as it reported 345 new deaths. However, it has experienced its slowest rate of increase - 12.6% - since the outbreak of the virus on February 21. The number of coronavirus cases rose from 27,980 to 31,506 over the past 24 hours. Italy remains the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in Europe. According to the World Health Organization, the virus has infected 184,976 people and killed 7,500 and counting. Data collected by Johns Hopkins University show that close to 80,000 people have recovered from the Covid-19 disease. Italy will be rushing 10,000 student doctors into service, as they won't be taking their final exams, in a bid to help its overburdened health workforce cope with the coronavirus onslaught.

Coronavirus in Italy: Death toll surpasses 2,000

On Monday March 16 2020, Italy reported a 12% rise in its coronavirus cases from Sunday to reach 23,073. The Italian Civil Protection Department also recorded a sharp increase in the number of deaths from the coronavirus - 349 new deaths. The death toll of the coronavirus in Italy now stands at 2,158. The global death toll from the coronavirus pandemic stands at more than 6,500 deaths, as reported by the WHO. Italy has recorded the highest number of deaths from the coronavirus in Europe and also has the highest number of cases. Europe is currently the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic with ever-growing numbers. On Monday, the Italian government approved a €25 billion package for economic measures like incentives for workers who risk losing their jobs due to the prolonged lockdown.

Italy May Soon Be Obliged to Stop Treating Coronavirus Patients Over 80

Italy's Prime Minister Guiseppe Conte has warned that Italy is entering its 'riskiest weeks' as he signaled 'we have not yet reached the peak'. Emergency plans have been drawn in Piedmont by civil protection officials. They warn that "it will be necessary to apply criteria for access to intensive treatment" if the patients abound. The written proposal warns that the constant rise in patients means that demand for intensive care resources will outstrip supply. As such, those who are more likely to recover will be prioritized.  The document proposes that one the tipping point is reached, those over 80 and in already poor health will be denied intensive care treatment. In the document, it is written: "The criteria for access to intensive therapy in cases of emergency must include age of less than 80 or a score on the Charlson comorbidity Index [measuring what other medical conditions the patient has] of less than 5." The number of deaths from the coronavirus in Italy keeps rising by the day. 368 more deaths have been recorded between Saturday and Sunday, taking the total death tally to 1,809. The total number of coronavirus infections have also risen, from 21,157 cases on Saturday to 24,747 on Sunday.  In Spain, the wife of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez - Begona Gomez - has been diagnosed with coronavirus. Qatar now has 401 cases, with four of those recovering. Pakistan's coronavirus cases rise risen to 52.  Britain now has 1,372 coronavirus cases, and an increase in deaths from 14 to 35. The British government announced that it would be isolating older people "in the coming weeks" in a bid to step up its response to the coronavirus crisis.

Coronavirus: Italy reports 3,497 new cases

On Saturday, March 14, 2020, Italy reported 3,497 new coronavirus cases and 175 deaths, taking their total death tally from the novel coronavirus outbreak to 1,441. Authorities report the total number of infections now stand at 21,157. Italy is the worst hit country in Europe, only second to China where the outbreak began. So far, 1,996 patients have recovered in Italy. There has also been a spike in the number of patients in intensive care, a rise from 1,328 to 1,518. Lombardy is the worst affected region in Italy. It recorded an increase of 76 deaths on Saturday, taking its death toll to 966. Its number of new cases surged by 1,865 yesterday, taking the total cases to 11,685.

Coronavirus: Italy records 250 deaths in 24 hours

On March 13, 2020, Italy recorded 250 coronavirus deaths – the most in the country in a single day. Within the same time frame, 2,500 new cases of coronavirus infections were recorded, bringing the country’s total number of infections to 17,000+. As of Friday, the total number of Covid-19 fatalities in Italy had risen to 1,266 deaths. A nurse in northern Italy likened the fight against coronavirus to being in the middle of “a world war”. China has sent help to Italy – medical experts and hospital equipment – to help with the coronavirus outbreak in the country. The team consists of nine experts, led by the vice-president of the Chinese Red Cross, Yang Huichuan, and Liang Zongan, a distinguished professor of cardiopulmonary resuscitation who played a crucial role in managing the Coronavirus emergency in China. The 31 tons of medical equipment they brought includes tens of thousands of masks, respiratory equipment and other vital hospital equipment.

All of Italy placed on lockdown due to dramatic increase in coronavirus cases

In a bid to curb the rapid spread of coronavirus in Italy, Italy Prime Minister has announced an extension of lockdown measures already in place in the northern part of the country. At a press conference on Monday evening, he said: "All the measure of the red zones are now extended to all of the national territory." A "red zone" entails people staying at home except for work and emergencies. He introduced a new slogan for citizens to live by: "I am staying home. Italy is a protected zone." In addition to the nationwide lockdown, PM Conte also announced a ban on all public events. Italy is the first European country to announce such nationwide restrictions. Italians seeking to move around the country for work, health or other extenuating circumstances would have to be granted permission. Italy has recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases in Europe with 9,172 cases as of now. The death toll of the disease rose to 463 as 97 more people died
