Italy has experienced a 16% increase in deaths from
coronavirus over the last 24 hours as it reported 345 new deaths. However, it
has experienced its slowest rate of increase - 12.6% - since the outbreak of
the virus on February 21. The number of coronavirus cases rose from 27,980 to
31,506 over the past 24 hours. Italy remains the epicenter of the coronavirus
outbreak in Europe. According to the World Health Organization, the virus has
infected 184,976 people and killed 7,500 and counting. Data collected by Johns
Hopkins University show that close to 80,000 people have recovered from the
Covid-19 disease.
Italy will be rushing 10,000 student doctors into service,
as they won't be taking their final exams, in a bid to help its overburdened
health workforce cope with the coronavirus onslaught.
