On Thursday, March 19, Italy recorded 427 more deaths from
the coronavirus pandemic, taking its total number of deaths to 3,405. This
figure shows that Italy has overtaken China's death toll as China report a
total of 3,245 deaths. So far, there have been more than 220,000 coronavirus
cases recorded in the world and more than 9,000 deaths. The total number of
coronavirus cases in Italy have increased by 14.9%, from the previous count of
35,713 to 41,035. Italy will be extending its lockdown beyond March in a bid to
contain the wild spread of the virus in the country.
In the UK, Queen Elizabeth has made her first official
pronouncement on the coronavirus crisis. The Queen has been moved to Windsor
Castle, out of London as the virus keeps spreading. She said that "we
all have a vitally important part to play" in battling the coronavirus
outbreak."
"I am reminded that our nation's history has been
forged by people and communities coming together to work as one, concentrating
our combined efforts with a focus on the common goal," she said in a
statement delivered by Buckingham Palace.
"I am certain we are up to that challenge. You can be
assured that my family and I stand ready to play our part," she added.
