
On March 13, 2020,
Italy recorded 250 coronavirus deaths – the most in the country in a single
day. Within the same time frame, 2,500 new cases of coronavirus infections were
recorded, bringing the country’s total number of infections to 17,000+. As of
Friday, the total number of Covid-19 fatalities in Italy had risen to 1,266
deaths.

Italy likened the fight against coronavirus to being in the middle of “a world
war”. China has sent help to Italy – medical experts and hospital equipment –
to help with the coronavirus outbreak in the country. The team consists of nine
experts, led by the vice-president of the Chinese Red Cross, Yang Huichuan, and
Liang Zongan, a distinguished professor of cardiopulmonary resuscitation who
played a crucial role in managing the Coronavirus emergency in China.
The 31 tons of
medical equipment they brought includes tens of thousands of masks, respiratory
equipment and other vital hospital equipment.
