On Tuesday, March 23, Italy recorded its second-highest
daily death toll from the coronavirus outbreak. Italy's Civil Protection Agency
figures reveal 743 more deaths today, but a decline in the number of new cases
- 3,612 new cases were recorded today, a drop from yesterday's 3,780. There has
been close to 900 recoveries in the past 24 hours. The total number of
recoveries in Italy stands at 8,326. In sum, 6,820 people have died from the
virus in Italy. There are currently 54,030 active cases in the country. The
percentage of new infections was just eight percent, the lowest level Italy
registered since its first death on February 21.
