Italy has recorded its largest daily spike in coronavirus
deaths since the start of the coronavirus outbreak in Italy. There were 793
deaths in the last 24 hours, taking Italy's total number of deaths to 4,825.
There was also a 13.9% surge in its number of new coronavirus cases, a rise
from the previous day's 47,021 to 53,578. Lombardy is the most critically hit
region in Italy, with 3,095 deaths and 25,515 cases so far. Lombardy accounts
for more than 605 of Italy's latest deaths.
Police were deployed across the streets of Rome on
Saturday, checking documents and fining those who had no valid reason to be
outside.
