On Monday March
16 2020, Italy reported a 12% rise in its coronavirus cases from Sunday to
reach 23,073. The Italian Civil Protection Department also recorded a sharp
increase in the number of deaths from the coronavirus - 349 new deaths. The
death toll of the coronavirus in Italy now stands at 2,158. The global death
toll from the coronavirus pandemic stands at more than 6,500 deaths, as
reported by the WHO.
Italy has
recorded the highest number of deaths from the coronavirus in Europe and also
has the highest number of cases. Europe is currently the epicenter of the
coronavirus pandemic with ever-growing numbers. On Monday, the Italian
government approved a €25 billion package for economic measures like
incentives for workers who risk losing their jobs due to the prolonged
lockdown.
