Cristiano Ronaldo greets imaginary fans as coronavirus sees Juventus win against Inter played behind closed doors
Juventus
played their derby game vs Inter Milan on Sunday behind closed doors due to the
rapid spread of the coronavirus in Italy. Large parts of Italy are actually on
lockdown. The Italian government has actually confirmed that all sport in the
country will be played behind closed doors until April 3, a decision that was
supported by Inter president Steven Zhang.
He told BBC Sport: 'From a
moral standpoint, as president of a football club and a manager in an
organisation who are involved in these events, I just cannot accept this kind
of proposal and I cannot let public health be put in this difficult condition,'
he said.
'It
doesn't matter what kind of game it is, it doesn't matter if it was 24 hours or
48 hours, we knew the situation was not going to be gone.
'The
right thing to do was to reject the proposal. I had to do what was morally
correct, even though it was difficult to say no. But we made the right choice
and now people realize it was correct.'
Deaths
from Covid-19 in Italy have surged up by 133 to 366 in the past 24 hours.
Cristiano Ronaldo got off the team bus and decided to have fun by greeting
imaginary fans and then laughed towards the camera.
The
Bianconeri reclaimed the top spot in the Serie A title race at the end of the
derby, beating Inter 2-0 thanks to goals from Aaron Ramsey and Paulo Dybala.
The victorious Juventus players celebrated in front of the empty stands at the
end of the game. Juventus are now a point ahead of Lazio, and nine in front of
Inter. The 12 remaining games will determine who the Serie A title holders will
